Reception
The education our children receive in the Early Years is of vital importance. As such, the curriculum in Reception is carefully designed to ensure that progress is secured in all areas of learning. The curriculum is challenging and is structured strategically so that children develop, consolidate and deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills. Learning to read is central: staff teach children to read systematically using synthetic phonics and promote a love of reading, through reading aloud and telling stories and rhymes. Opportunities to practice reading sounds are embedded throughout many areas of the class provision.
To ensure learning is effective in Reception, our curriculum combines:
- Playing and exploring
- Active learning
- Creative and critical thinking
The documents below include a full-year curriculum map, curriculum overviews for all areas, and the half-termly 'Curriculum Big Picture' letters for parents.
