Homework Policy

A copy of our current homework policy - explaining the homework children will be set in each year group - can be found on our policies page (link below).

This policy is informed by the best available evidence on homework design and was developed in consultation with parents, staff and children in the 2021/22 academic year.

The one-page overviews below set out the homework arrangements in each year group.

Reading

Encouraging and enabling reading at home every day will have a significant impact on your child's academic attainment and progress across the curriculum.

To keep track of reading at home, we use digital reading records on Showbie. These are checked and acknowledged weekly by teachers. The use of digital records bring many benefits. You can:

  • Easily update your child's reading record from any device (mobile, laptop, tablet, desktop computer, etc.)
  • Type or dictate comments to your child's class teacher.
  • Create audio recordings of your child reading to share with the teacher.
  • Post photographs of the cover of the book your child is reading, creating a visual log of their reading throughout the year.

The video tutorials below demonstrate how to use the digital reading records and provide examples of how the digital reading records are being used.

If you would like additional suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • Showbie Login information provided by school. Showbie is our online learning platform. Showbie is used to support learning in school, for our remote education provision, and for access to homework activities.

  • Times Tables Rockstars Login information provided by school. A fun (and fiercely competitive) way to learn your times tables! We strongly recommend that all pupils use TT Rockstars a few times per week.

  • Numbots Login information provided by school. NumBots is all about every child achieving the "triple win" of understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating.

  • BBC Bitesize Bitesize provides learning and revision materials to support pupil understanding across all areas of the curriculum.

  • Spelling Shed Login information provided by school. Spelling and word knowledge are key components in the process of learning to read and write. Spelling Shed makes the acquisition of these key skills fun and engaging for pupils and easy to plan for teachers.

  • Hour of Code Short computer coding projects for pupils of all ages designed to be achievable in an hour, but often you can find that you spend a lot longer exploring.

  • Oxford Owl Learning games, activities and online books for children to enjoy.
