User Guide

Each tracker features a ‘welcome’ page with an introduction, user guide and ‘top tips’:

Tabs along the bottom of the spreadsheet allow users to navigate between sheets. Pupil details and prior attainment information is added to the ‘Reading’ sheet – this is then copied across automatically to the other relevant sheets. Summative assessment judgements are added at each assessment point (see columns J, K and L below). The end-of-year target (column M) is populated automatically and is based on end-of-Key-Stage targets that are set manually:

The ‘RWM combined’ sheet calculates the percentage of pupils who are currently working at the expected standard in all three of reading, writing and maths. In the example below, 52% of pupils are achieving the expected standard in RWM at the end of Year 3:

Attainment reports calculate the number and percentage of pupils working at each standard. The reports include information for all pupils and for specific groups (boys, girls, disadvantaged, SEND, high attainers). Teachers can compare changes across terms. These can be exported as PDFs or printed on A3 sheets:

Progress reports calculate the number and percentage of pupils who are on track to meet their end-of-Key-Stage targets (these targets are set manually by schools based on prior attainment). Pupils who are deemed to be making ‘better than expected progress’ have been set an adjusted, higher target since the start of the Key Stage. Percentages are highlighted green where 85% or more are on track to achieve their expected grade:

Individual pupil reports are automatically populated with attainment data from the tracker. Space is provided for teachers to add a short comment and effort scores can be manually edited. Explanations are included to help parents understand the information provided. The reports can be easily exported and printed:

A simple phonics record sheet is included within the KS1 tracker. This produces instant analysis about the number and percentage of children who are on track to pass the phonics screening check (this includes data for a range of pupil groups):
